One of the hazards of fibromyalgia is a condition where sensation in the hands and feet diminishes or is lost entirely.  This is known as "peripheral neuropathy" and can be caused by many other medical conditions (including diabetes, which I don't have).  It is measured by injecting a fairly high voltage pulse and measuring how the stimulus is carried along the peripheral nerves.  Since this involves a fairly high voltage (up to several hundred volts), it is a very painful experience.  I try to have it done as infrequently as possible.  Usually once a decade.

I took this in to the EMG tech, who loved it.  He particularly like my characterization of an EMG tech.
